Ben is in the final year of his BSc Earth Science (Hons) degree. Having a keen interest in science from an early age and wanting to work outdoors, a career in geology suited him perfectly.

Throughout the last 3 years at Glasgow, he has enjoyed all aspects of his course, specifically how an understanding of geology can help in the development of a sustainable planet. Ben has extensive field work experience throughout Scotland, a geologically diverse area of the world. Most recently spending 21 days studying a section of the Moine Thrust, close to Ullapool.

This is his first geological expedition, having wanted to be involved in such a trip since starting university. He wanted to join the expedition as the research goals are forward thinking, not only in geology but as they also incorporate environmental and human impacts. Carrying out research in an area which is geologically active, was also a huge draw.

Ben has the role of applying for funding, he has previous experience in communicating with potential sponsors and is looking forward to the challenge of attaining the team's sponsorship target which will be essential to the success of the expedition.
